Former Kanawha County Manager To Pay Fine

  • {Charleston, West Virginia}...Under an agreement with the state Ethics Commission, former Kanawha County Manager Brent Pauley will pay more than $3,300 in restitution and pay a $5,000 fine. Pauley, who left his position as county manager last year to take a job with a private company in Putnam County, had been under investigation by the state Ethics Commission for allegations that he improperly used a county contractor to do work at his home. Ethics officials also looked into allegations that Pauley improperly accepted gifts from AEP officials, used a county parks and recreation account to buy golf clubs and equipment and took advantage of a free golf pass after county officials told employees not to play golf for free. A conciliation agreement signed by Pauley and Ethics Commission Chairman Kemp Morton says ethics officials found some of the allegations had merit and others didn't.
