Unemployment rate falls in West Virginia

The unemployment rate for West Virginia is slowly falling.

According to WorkForce West Virginia, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched downward three-tenths of a percentage point to 7 percent in March.

The total number of state residents without a job fell to 56,200, a decline of 2,500. Total unemployment was down 100 over the year.

The highest employment increases were in trade, transportation and utilities with 900. Mining and logging added 400 jobs.

For declining employment, manufacturing saw the highest with 1,200 followed by 900 in construction.

The national unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.6 percent.
