Former Senator Appointed To WV Board of Education
{Charleston, West Virginia}...Governor-elect Earl Ray Tomblin announced Monday that he had appointed Hamlin native Lloyd G. Jackson II to the West Virginia Board of Education, effective immediately. Jackson will replace Burma Hatfield of Mingo County, who was originally appointed to the board to replace Jackson in 2003. Jackson is a longtime state senator who helped draft the Promise scholarship legislation during his tenure as Senate Education chairman. Jackson was also named to the state Board of Education by then-Gov. Bob Wise in 2003, shortly after he left the state Senate. He resigned from the board after only eight months to run an unsuccessful race for governor. Jackson holds bachelor's and law degrees from West Virginia University, and served as Lincoln County prosecuting attorney for six years. His father, former state Senate President Lloyd Jackson Sr., died last month at age 93.
