{St. Albans, West Virginia}...Omar Cowan of St. Albans, originally from New York, died after being shot during an hour standoff with police around 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon. Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies went to Cowan's apartment at Amandaville Court to perform a welfare check after receiving calls from a family member in Texas saying the family was being held against their will, and Cowan was threatening them with a box cutter or some sort of knife. When the deputy got inside the home, Cowan threw a vase at him, and the deputy called for backup. The SWAT team arrived and attempted to talk Cowan into surrendering, but he refused. SWAT team officials say they were forced to break down the door and shoot Cowan.
