Michigan Man Gets Prison for W.Va. Drug Sales

A man who prosecutors say was part of a Michigan-to-West Virginia drug ring has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison.

35-year-old Leonard Joseph Stewart of Romulus, Mich. was sentenced in federal court in Huntington on Monday on heroin and crack cocaine convictions.

According to the government, Stewart admitted he transported the drugs from Michigan to Huntington to sell. He and his associates set up shop at area motels, using the rooms as a storefront to sell the drugs.

Stewart was arrested in December 2012, after he attempted to escape police by jumping through a second-story window.

Besides drugs, police also seized more than $4,000 in cash.

He was sentenced to three years, 10 months in a federal prison.
