Several fire departments will get additional emergency gear and training thanks to a new grant.
West Virginia American Water announced the awardees of its first-ever Firefighting Support Grant Program. The grand provides more than $10,000 to fire departments.
According to a news release, the grant will help fire departments and firefighter training organizations purchase emergency gear, life-saving equipment, training materials and essential firefighting apparatus.
A team of West Virginia American Water employees chose the 17 grant recipients from 26 applications, according to a release.
WVAW says that the program covers a wide range of fire department expenses associated with personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training and related activities that will be used to support community fire protection.
