Argus Energy Sends WARN Notice to Wayne County Mine Employees


Argus Energy LLC has announced they will be closing down mine operations in Wayne County, West Virginia.

According to a WARN notice sent to employees, the company has decided to close Mine #7, Mine #8, the Preparation Plant, the Dunlow Mine office and related operation on Twelve Pole Creek Road in Dunlow.

The letter also states they will close the Wayne County River Terminal, Kenova office and related operations on Big Sandy Road in Kenova.

The closure is expected to be permanent.

According to the notice, the facilities will close on December 27, 2013.


In the notice, the company says, "We deeply regret the loss of jobs that will result from this decision. However, irreversible trends in the industry have been accelerating in the last several years which have resulted in the decline in the Central Appalachian coal market. Moreoever, recent events at or related to the Facilities have made it clear that the Company has no alternative but to idle the Facilities."
