Tip Leads to Sophisticated Indoor Marijuana Operation

A tip to the Drug Task Force led police to a home in Huntington where they found marijuana plants and an elaborate indoor grow system worth up to $118,000.

The West Virginia Bureau of Criminal Investigation, along with West Virginia State Police, made the find in the 1800 block of Hall Avenue.

West Virginia State Police Sgt. E. A. Blankenship said they seized 23 plants, each with a street value of $3,000 to $5,000. Along with the plants, thousands of dollars of equipment also was seized.

Among the equipment was shielding material, a ventilation system, a lighting system, timers and an irrigation system.

Blankenship called the system a dual growth stage operation, with multiple sized plants growing in a cycle.

Blankenship says they did not have a warrant, but after knocking on the door they were given consent to search the home.

No one was arrested, but police say charges are pending.
