Juvenile Suspect Arrested in Warwood After Armed Carjacking in Brooke County

A 17-year-old from Mingo County has been arrested in an armed carjacking that started in Brooke County and ended in Ohio County.

Wellsburg Police received the initial call around 3:30 p.m., after two men fishing by the Buffalo Creek near the Wellsburg sewer plant reported a person with a handgun demanded their keys, cell phones and wallets. The suspect took off in the car, driving down Route 2 to Warwood. One of the victims calmly told the suspect he had left his cell phone at home, and was able to call police when he left.

Wheeling Police found the stolen car in the north end of the city. Lieutenant Skinner with the Wellsburg Police Department said shortly after that, the juvenile suspect was found near the bank of the Ohio River by Wheeling Police. Neither agency has been able to locate the handgun allegedly used in the carjacking.

Police said they do not know why the teen is in the Ohio Valley, or how he got here. They added he is not cooperating with the investigation, but they hope to learn more details about the case after he has an attorney present.
