Construction of a new $12
million elementary school in McDowell
County is expected to
begin after crews stabilize a riverbank that partially collapsed earlier this
year.
School Superintendent Nelson Spencer says demolition of the old Iaeger Elementary
School has been completed. He says large rocks
from the construction area are being used to help stabilize the bank.
He said the new Iaeger
Elementary School is the
last project in a 14-year-old flood-proofing effort by the state Department of
Education, the state School Building Authority and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers.
Currently, there's no time frame for the project's completion.
