Coal miner killed in roof bolting accident


A Monongalia County coal miner was killed Monday evening according to the state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training.
The victim, Raymond Scott Savage, 49, of Maidsville, suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a piece of rock at Red Bone Mining Company’s Crawdad No. 1 Portal B Mine in Monongalia County.
Savage was a section foreman operating a roof bolting machine.

State and federal mine safety investigators were on the scene Tuesday morning.
