Operation 119 Blitz a success

Efforts to make a stretch of road safer in four counties during the holidays has paid off, West Virginia State Police say.

Operation 119, which was enforced on U.S. 119 in Boone, Lincoln, Logan and Mingo Counties, ended Dec. 31 with troopers handing out 379 speeding citations. The initiative began the beginning of December.

The total number of motor vehicle crashes on U.S. 119 for the four counties during December 2014 were: 67 in Boone County, 35 in Logan County, 17 in Lincoln County, and seven in Mingo County.

Troopers will continue to patrol U.S. 119 in an effort to reduce the number of accidents, according to a WVSP news release.
