HUNTINGTON, W.Va.– The city of Huntington is working to use the Home Rule program to target urban blight by issuing on-the-spot citations for nuisance violations.
It includes violations for trash, junk storage, graffiti, weeds and tall grass -- even sidewalks in disrepair. It is all part of the city's major spring cleanup campaign.
Mayor Steve Williams said he hopes the zero tolerance policy will send a strong message. If the measure passes, homeowners would be given two weeks to prove they have corrected the problem.
If not, they could be slapped with a $100 fine for a first offense.
If approved, it would go into effect July 1.
