They say several deed books were intentionally damaged within the last few months.
Officials say it appears that someone took a razor blade and cut out selected pages of the records.
"I don't know if their intentions were to get rid of the record or to [avoid] paying for a copy," county clerk Direl Baker said. "It could have been either one."
Baker says the vandalism prompted him to buy and install a new security system with cameras in the records room.
The cameras record 24 hours a day and use infrared light to operate in the dark.
Baker says the system cost a little less than a thousand dollars to purchase, but could potentially save thousands more in documents.
"They're a part of history and I think it looks good to have the old records," he said.
All of the courthouse documents are backed up on microfilm, so no information was lost through the vandalism.
