West
Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced that his office will
participate in the seventh National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
According
to a press release from the attorney general's office, the event is scheduled
to take place Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the East Rotunda on
the California Street
side of the West Virginia Capitol.
In
the release, AG Morrisey said, ""We are happy to join in this
endeavor once again to help rid our state and communities of unwanted
prescriptions, as well as unused over-the-counter medication."
According
to the release, a report by the Trust for America 's
Health shows West Virginia
had the highest overdose death rate in the nation.
The
federal Drug Enforcement Administration spearheads the Drug Take-Back Day,
which was initially launched in 2010. During the event, local and state
law enforcement agencies collect unused medication and dispose of it in a safe
