Crews Working on Power Outage in Putnam County, Shelters Open

Power outages have been reported across Putnam County.

Shortly before 12 p.m., AEP's website was reporting more than 3,000 customers without power in the county.

Sheriff Steve Deweese says a substation near Hurricane High School is down.

He says a portable unit is being brought in from Logan, but once it is installed it will take several hours to get power restored to all customers.

They hope to start getting power back on to residents starting around 9 p.m. and continue work throughout the night.

Warming stations and shelters have been opened at the YMCA in Teays Valley and the National Guard Armory in Eleanor. The shelters may remain open overnight if the power is not restored.
