Low-income West Virginians can
get help paying heating bills this winter.
The Department of Health and Resources
will begin taking applications Jan. 21 for the Low Income Energy Assistance
Program. Applications must be received or postmarked by Jan. 31.
DHHR Secretary Karen Bowling says in a
news release that many West Virginia
families struggle to pay high utility bills during the winter.
Eligibility is based on income,
household size and whether the household is responsible for paying its heating
bill. To be eligible, income must be at or below 130 percent of the federal
poverty guideline for the household size.
Applications are available online at
www.wvinroads.org and at local DHHR offices, community action agencies and
senior centers operated by any Area Agency on Aging.
