An elderly woman is recovering at a rehabilitation facility after falling in her home.
Evelyn McClure, 92, said she was walking down the stairs of her Kanawha City home when she fell. She said she thought she was going to die.
"It's hard to remember it," she said. "I don't like to think about it."
Evelyn landed on a concrete floor in her living room and couldn't move. She lives alone and laid there for two days and two nights before she was found.
"I prayed for four days," she said. "I was lucky that I had on a heavy robe. That kept me warm. I thought that I would die here. And I said, 'I'm not going to die here.' "
Evelyn said her next door neighbor and niece found her and got her help. She suffered several broken bones including her arm and collarbone. Evelyn credits her neighbor for saving her life. She said he had been looking out for her for years.
"He's watched over me," she said. "And this day he was out of town and everything happened against this."
Evelyn said her neighbor is taking this accident pretty hard and is blaming himself for what happened. But she said it was an accident and wants everyone to know the importance of checking on your neighbors, especially the elderly.
"When you're alone, it's wonderful," she said. "He's always helped us."
Evelyn said she's doing a lot better and sat up in bed for the first time on Tuesday. She said she is not sure when she will be able to return home but is anxious to see her neighbor again, the man she said saved her life.
She also said she wants to get a Life Alert necklace, that way if this were to happen again, she would be able to get help immediately.
