Man arrested for alleged attack against Boone County deputies using a sledgehammer and knife

A man recently was arrested in Boone County after deputies say he attempted to attack them with a sledgehammer and a knife, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.

Jimmy Dean Jarrell, 46, of Robinson, was taken into custody Saturday at his home.

Deputies said they arrived to find Jarrell "out of control and throwing things." A deputy said a sledgehammer was thrown toward him. He also said Jarrell came toward him with a large kitchen knife.

The deputy had to subdue Jarrell with a Taser. Once Jarrell was in custody, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was taken to Boone Memorial Hospital and admitted after his condition appeared to worsen. Meth appeared to be responsible for Jarrell's condition, according to the release.

Jarrell later was transferred to CAMC Memorial in Charleston and released to the custody of Charleston Police on Monday.

He was then taken to the South Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $20,000.
