CAMC has reached its fundraising campaign goal and can now move forward in building a new comprehensive cancer outpatient center.
Gail Pitchford with the CAMC Foundation said Wednesday was a milestone day.
“We hit $15 million, actually we’ve gone over the 15 million and we’re at $15,001,100 thanks to everyone that made a gift,” said Pitchford.
Officials with CAMC made the exciting announcement Wednesday.
Pitchford said over 2,000 people gave gifts and donations to the campaign ranging anywhere from $2 to $2 million dollars each.
“That truly shows the theme of our campaign which was the power of many,” said Pitchford.
The new facility will be built on the former Watt Powell Park MacCorkle Avenue
“Patients will be able to received their chemotherapy
in an atmosphere that’s soothing and private, they’ll be able to visit with their oncologist, they’ll be able to receive their radiation therapy, there’ll be a wig and prosthesis shop there, multiple comfortable waiting areas and a cafe,”said Pitchford.

In addition, the center will contain a retail pharmacy and the breast center. A large community meeting room will also be available that could be used for numerous things including support group meetings or yoga classes.
Pitchford said this just puts everything all under one roof for the patients convenience.
CAMC is still finalizing the plans with architects, but Pitchford expects ground to be broke for the project in a couple weeks.
