Christmas is still more than three months away, but the
Huntington Area Salvation Army is urging families
to start thinking now about the holiday.
The Angel Tree sign up
schedule for Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln and Mason counties is being moved up this
year to the third week of September.
"If we can have everything ready
we can put more names out in the beginning, than we did last year," Major
Matt Riley said. "We actually start planning Christmas around here in
July."
The Cabell County
office of Information
and Referral helps spread the word about programs like the Salvation Army's
Angel Tree.
Sidney Polan is hoping people spread
the word, too.
"I want parents to understand,
parents and guardians, you really have to step up because this is it,"
Polan said. "When it's over, it's over."
The dates to register
are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 through Sept. 25. Make-up days will be from
4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 through Sept 27. There will be no exceptions.
The Angel Tree program is for children
up to 10 years of age. Families will be notified by mail during the first week
of December to update them on their application status.
