The state has now been given 13 new
seismic monitoring stations as part of an experiment with the National Science
Foundation, which paid for the stations.
Previously, there was only one station
in the state. Now, the monitoring stations are placed along a grid located
about 45 miles apart, all across the state.
Most of the seismic stations will be
dug up and recycled for use elsewhere after two years, but six of them may be
left behind for another two years. The West Virginia Geologic and
Economic
Survey says it's possible three or four could be permanently installed.
