Arrest Made in Early Morning Shooting

A man is fighting for his life in the hospital and another is behind bars after an early morning shooting Saturday in Wilkinson.

State Police say Christopher Ellis shot Ronnie May twice at a home on Monitor Hill about 2 a.m.

They say after May was shot, Ellis began beating him in the face with the handle of the gun. Pieces of the gun were recovered at the crime scene.

The suspect's brother, Jason Ellis, lives at the home and watched the horror unfold. He says May had been visiting him when Christopher pulled up in the driveway and lost control.

Ronnie's family members say he struggled with mental health problems for years, but all efforts to help him failed.

Ronnie remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Ellis is being held in jail on $25,000 bail.
