Elderly Woman Killed in House Fire; Name Released

Investigators confirm Claire Dingess, 90, is the woman who died after her home caught fire late Monday night.

It happened on Striker Fork Road in Chapmanville about 11:15 p.m. Monday.

An assistant state fire marshal says Dingess was pulled from her living room and taken to Logan Regional Medical Center, but did not survive.

Investigators say the freezing temperatures posed extra obstacles.

Officials say they were unable to determine a cause, but say it is believed to be accidental.
They say the damage was isolated to one room, which appeared to be a laundry area.

A smoke detector has been found in the home, but it's unclear yet whether it was working.
