Longtime Coach Dies



A high school basketball assistant coach who was well-known in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia is dead.

Frank Smith died Tuesday night from heart-related issues. He was 70.

Smith was in his third season as assistant coach for his son, Frankie Smith, the head boys basketball coach at Sheldon Clark High School.

Frank Smith was a star player in the early 60s for Chattaroy High School in West Virginia. He will be most remembered for a coaching career that spanned 50 years. Smith leaves behind his wife, four children, five grandchildren.

Smith's visitation is set for Friday from six p.m. to eight p.m. at the Belfry High School auditorium.

His funeral is set for Saturday at one p.m. in the auditorium.
