Huntington man arrested after lengthy standoff with police

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.A six-hour standoff with police in Huntington ended after officers realized the suspect wasn’t even in the house.
Michael Johnson, 46, later turned himself into police Monday night hours after police realized he had escaped the home on 10th Avenue.
Police have charged Johnson with felony wanton endangerment and misdemeanor domestic battery.
Police said he had choked his girlfriend at his home on 10th Avenue and also hit her with a handgun. Police believe that is what led Johnson to barricade himself inside the home Monday afternoon.
After five and a half hours, the SWAT team finally went inside the home to realize Johnson was gone. He later turned himself in.

Johnson is currently behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
