Two McDowell County deputies suspended for not responding to a domestic call are returning to work.
Media outlets report that a Civil Service Board reinstated
Deputies Michael Pertee and Timothy Vineyard on Monday.
Board chairman Philip LaCaria says the board believes that the public was ill served. But he says the sheriff's department didn't follow policies when it suspended the deputies.
Sheriff Martin West says the deputies will return to duty Tuesday.
The deputies were suspended with pay after they didn't respond to a 911 call on May 14 from 52-year-old Donald Lee Baker of Bradshaw. Baker told dispatchers that 54-year-old Wesley Payne of War was threatening him and Payne's former girlfriend.
Payne is accused of fatally shooting Baker four days later. He's charged with first-degree murder.
