W.Va. Center floats Idea of ‘Food Hubs’

The idea of creating "food hubs" in West Virginia is being examined.

The concept is being floated by the New Appalachian Farm and Research Center. The creation of regional food hubs to distribute and market locally and regionally produced products could better serve groceries, schools and retail outlets.

In addition, the farm and research center says the absence of food hubs in West Virginia is a barrier to growth for growers.

The center is conducting a study to size up the prospects of such hubs and where they would be located. It's seeking the thoughts of farmers and farm families on the idea.
