Man Dies in Fire; Two Homes Destroyed

BRAXTON COUNTY, W.Va. -- A family is coping not only with the loss of two homes, but also the life of a loved one.

Investigators say the early-morning fire started in a house along Runnion Ridge Road and spread to the trailer next door.

Police say the two families are related.

Sheriff's deputies say the body of a 42-year-old man was found in a bedroom -- near where the fire started.

Because the home is in a remote area, it took crews a while to get there. When they arrived, both homes were destroyed and the man was dead.

That man’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire. However, investigators say the damage is so severe they may never know exactly what happened.
