State Office Building in Logan Complete After Many Obstacles

LOGAN, W.Va. -- Ten years in the making, the brand new state building in Logan has finally opened its doors.

With problems from the beginning, some of the major obstacles started in 2010 when the Aracoma Hotel next door caught fire.

A few months later, construction was back underway when Native American bones were discovered -- delaying the project yet again.

After all of that, Logan Mayor Serafino Nolletti is proud of what has been accomplished.

Just about everything in the building is energy efficient and hands free.

There are motion sensors in every room, as well as lights that dim based on the amount of sunlight coming in.

“It means a lot to the town,” Sen. Art Kirkendoll, D-Logan County, said. “It's a beautiful building. Keep our jobs, retain our jobs. That's the main thing.”

Workers with the DHHR started moving into offices this week.

Other businesses and organizations will be moving in during the next couple of months.

The hope is to have a grand opening sometime this fall.
