Federal investigators issue 6 safety violations for May explosion at Airgas site in W.Va.

Federal investigators have cited a distributor of specialty gases for six safety violations stemming from an investigation into a May explosion at a West Virginia industrial site.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration classified four of the citations as serious and carry proposed fines of $19,000.

OSHA spokesman Michael D'Aquino says Airgas has appealed the citations. An Airgas spokesman didn't immediately return a request for comment Wednesday.

Putnam County authorities have said the May 13 explosion involved about 50 tanks of acetylene that were at Airgas waiting to be refilled. Two workers were injured.
