Logan Sheriff’s Deputy Denies Allegations in Beating Case

The Logan County Sheriff's Department and a deputy accused of beating a suspect in 2011 have denied any wrongdoing.

Deputy James Brown said he used pepper spray to subdue Charles Allen Simpkins and transported him to a hospital for treatment.

But in his recent response to a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, Brown denies that he took a detour and beat Simpkins behind a school near Accoville, W.Va.

Simpkins says his civil rights were violated when he was kicked and punched repeatedly with reinforced black leather gloves.
