A posting on the agency's website encourages federal workers to
wait until next week to file their claims because it's uncertain how long the
shutdown will last.
The agency says it will backdate claims up to 21 days after a
worker is laid off.
The agency already has received about 30 claims from federal
workers and has increased staff to process an expected rise in claims next
week.
The first step for federal employees is contacting the closest
Workforce West Virginia Office to them. The agency says they need to bring with
them, an ID, proof of wages and their 2012 W2 tax form.
Also, employees are asked to visit the Workforce West Virginia's
website to download a copy of the Initial Claim Application (CD-1) and complete
it prior to filing their claim.
Those Federal workers who are still on the job but not getting
paid will get a paycheck, eventually.
Those folks are not advised to pay for benefits because if they
receive them, and then get back pay, they will be asked to repay the
unemployment.
