Juvenile Petitions Filed in Burch Middle School Alleged Sexual Abuse

Mingo County Interim Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Maynard has confirmed juvenile petitions have been filed in the Burch Middle School alleged sexual abuse.

Maynard says they are proceeding with juvenile petitions for both seventh-grade boys who allegedly sexually abused and harassed two of their female classmates. According to an injunction filed by West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, when the girls asked for help, they were punished and nothing was done to stop it.

The juvenile petitions being filed are part of a separate investigation by the West Virginia State Police and Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Maynard says they are still investigating if charges will be filed against the adults involved. West Virginia State Police said they could not comment on the investigation or charges being filed.

No other information could be released because the boys involved are juveniles.
