Mingo County deputies said a woman faces charges
after allegedly setting a fire to a residence while she was carrying her son.
Brenda Lee Hinkle, 30, of Matewan has been charged with first-degree arson and
child neglect creating risk of injury, according to a criminal complaint filed
in Mingo County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said Opal and Larry Jackson on Monday saw Hinkle with her son and
a jug of liquid at the side of a house. The Jacksons told deputies they saw Hinkle throw
the jug of liquid under the house and light it on fire, causing the crawl space
to catch on fire.
It was unclear how much damage was caused to the residence.
Hinkle appeared in Mingo County
Magistrate Court and was being held Monday at the
Southwestern Regional Jail on $15,000 bond.
