After responding to two deadly
accidents in the past two days, sheriff's deputies in Kanawha County want to
get the word out about West Virginia's upcoming seat belt campaign.
The
Governor's Highway Safety Program will kick off its Click-It or Ticket campaign
this Friday.
Not wearing a
seat belt can cause you to be ejected from a vehicle during a crash, and
deputies say three out of four people who are ejected or even partially ejected
-- end up dying from their injuries.
As of last
year, not wearing a seat belt is now a primary offense. That means officers
don't need another reason to pull you over and give you a ticket.
Deputies say
the fine is $25, which when put into perspective is a low price to pay compared
to what could happen if you're involved in a crash.
The Click-It
or Ticket campaign is set to last several weeks.
