About 78,000 voters have cast ballots in West Virginia before Election Day, lower
than a similar 2010 nonpresidential year.
That total is still growing as early
voting wraps up Saturday.
As of Friday morning, the secretary of
state's office says about 73,800 people voted early and almost 4,500 returned
absentee ballots. Two counties didn't report early voting totals. One didn't
report its absentee tally.
In 2010, 108,200 West
Virginians voted early or absentee.
Midterm votes cast before Election Day
have steadily increased since early voting started 12 years ago. About 24,000
turned out early for the 2002 general election.
Early voting continues Friday and
Saturday, the final day. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Election Day voting runs from 6:30 a.m.
to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
