A civil lawsuit filed against former
Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury settled out of court Monday.
The suit was filed by Robert Woodruff,
the husband of Thornsbury’s former secretary Kim Woodruff. He alleged
Thornsbury orchestrated a scheme to have him arrested, prosecuted and indicted
so the judge could force his wife into a relationship.
The trial was scheduled to start
Tuesday but a settlement was reached Monday afternoon. The details were not
immediately released.
Thornsbury, 58, is serving a 4-year
federal prison term for another scheme in which he denied a man his
constitutional rights. Thornsbury was transported to Charleston for the trial. He’ll be returned
to the Florida
prison where he is serving his sentence.
