New assessor sworn-in in Logan County

Logan County has a new county assessor.
The Logan County Commission appointed David Trent of North Mitchell Heights at a special meeting Friday afternoon.
Trent is a professional property and real estate appraiser. He has done work in the private and corporate sectors for 30 years.
Trent said he is more than ready for the job.
“I’ve been doing this for three decades,” Trent said. “I’ve been buying and selling properties for coal companies for the last 25 or 26 years. I’ve thought about running for this office for 30 years, but I’ve never been one to get involved in politics much.”
Trent said he expects a smooth transition as he takes over for former Logan County Assessor Rick Grimmett who resigned Wednesday.
“I’m very excited,” Trent said. “I would like to serve Logan County in way that maybe has not been done before. Each person has their own fingerprint. I have my own fingerprint. I’ve got friends who are assessors in other counties and I will draw from their experience as well to help with a smooth transition.”

Trent will serve out Grimmett’s unexpired term which runs through 2016. The position came open when Grimmett was named in a federal criminal case involving alleged illegal bank withdrawals. Grimmett is cooperating with federal prosecutors.
