Belt line catches fire at W.Va. surface mine, 1 firefighter hospitalized for heat, exhaustion


State mining regulators are investigating a belt line fire at the Hobet surface mine in Boone County.

Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training spokeswoman Leslie Fitzwater says a surface overland belt caught fire around 12:50 a.m. Thursday.

Fitzwater says one firefighter was taken to a hospital for heat and exhaustion. No mine workers were injured.
