No charges in Welch baby drop off case

WELCH, W.Va.No charges will be filed against the Mingo County woman who gave birth to twin boys and then claimed someone had dropped them off at her home.
State Police said the woman did take the babies to Welch Community Hospital which means her actions fall under West Virginia’s Safe Haven Law.
With that law, a newborn baby can be left at any hospital or medical facility in the Mountain State without fear of prosecution.
Troopers said the woman did not think she could take care of the babies.  They were born in June.

The twins are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
