Fire at Boone County Mine, Firefighter Taken to Hospital


BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. -- A firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion after responding to a fire at a mine in Boone County.

The fire was reported at the Hobet Mine. about 12:50 a.m. Thursday.

Leslie Fitzwater, a spokesperson with the Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training, says a surface overland belt caught fire.

No miners were injured, but a firefighter was taken to the hospital.


Investigators have been onsite since the fire was reported and their investigation continues.
