Sen. Jay Rockefeller has introduced legislation that he says will improve care for vulnerable patients and keep costs down.
The legislation is aimed at health clinics and providers that
serve low-income patients. It would provide for incentive payments to encourage
the adoption of electronic health records. The West Virginia Democrat said
companion legislation was introduced Thursday in the House of Representatives.
Rockefeller says electronic health records help providers avoid duplicative testing, which reduces costs for the patient and the federal government. It also blunts the practice of doctor shopping by drug abusers.
