Ethics Commission To Sue Former Dunbar Mayor
{Charleston, West Virginia}...Thursday, the West Virginia Ethics Commission voted unanimously to file suit in Kanawha Circuit Court to collect unpaid fines, expenses and court costs from former Dunbar Mayor Roger Wolfe. A three-judge panel appointed by the state Supreme Court ordered Wolfe thrown out of office in 2008 for violating state law and the Dunbar city charter by paying himself expenses and spending city money without approval of the Dunbar City Council. In July, the Ethics Commission ordered Wolfe to pay more than $25,000 in fines and restitution for actions during his time as mayor. The panel also imposed a $15,000 fine, but Wolfe, who addressed the commission prior to Thursday's vote, vowed he would go to jail before he would pay the fine.
