Fire Chief Dies Responding To Call



A volunteer fire department is grieving the loss of their chief, who died while preparing to respond to an emergency.

It happened about 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

Director of Jackson County Emergency Services, Walter Smittle says Southern Jackson Volunteer Fire Chief Charlie Pierson died from a heart attack.

Smittle says Chief Pierson was in an emergency vehicle -- getting ready to respond to a car crash when the heart attack happened.

Funeral services have not yet been set for Pierson.
