Doctor Wants Seized Money Returned

{Williamson, West Virginia}…Dr. Katherine Hoover is seeking to have $88,000 seized following a raid on the Mountain Medical Care Center in Williamson in March 2010 returned to her. Hoover is appealing after a federal judge ordered her to forfeit the assets. Hoover and her husband moved to the Bahamas following the raid, and she failed to appear to testify in the civil forfeiture case. Most of the forfeited money came from a bank account, while $2,900 of it was cash found in a bureau drawer in a Williamson apartment Hoover shared with Dr. Diane Shafer. Investigators believe the Mingo County clinic operated as a pill mill, alleging it recklessly provided pain drug prescriptions to thousands of people.
