Mingo County, West Virginia Sheriff Shot and Killed


(Williamson, West Virginia) -West Virginia State Police and area emergency officials have confirmed that Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum was shot and killed just after noon today.  Officials say Crum was sitting in his SUV in a parking lot on the corner of 3rd and Harvey Streets when a male subject approached the Sheriff’s vehicle on foot and fired a weapon into the vehicle, fatally injuring Crum.  State Police officials also confirmed the subject was shot by officers while attempting to flee the scene.  A vehicle pursuit led into the Delbarton, West Virginia area, where law enforcement officials were able to apprehend the subject, who was initially taken to Logan Regional Medical Center, but has since been transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital.  No word on the extent of his injuries.  Stay tuned to the stations of East Kentucky Broadcasting as we will be broadcasting a press conference LIVE at 6pm from outside the Mingo County Courthouse.
