Doctor in alleged Harrison County pill mill operation to face additional charges

The doctor accused of fronting a pill mill in Harrison County now faces additional charges.
Dr. Edita Milan, 75, of Fairmont, now faces one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises and four counts of unlawful distribution of controlled substances. This goes with the original charge of conspiracy filed against her on July 23, 2013.
The five new charges came about from a grand jury in Wheeling on Tuesday, which alleged Milan’s practice in Bridgeport was used to distribute various controlled substances at least four times between 2010 and 2013.
Milan was arrested in July 2013 on charges of prescribing excessive amounts of painkillers to patients who had no legitimate medical need while treating substance abuse.
She was permitted to treat up to 30 patients with narcotics, but an investigation determined she was actually treating more than double that number and was also allegedly writing prescriptions for many others off the books.

Milan’s trial has previously been delayed but is now scheduled to begin January 5.
