Lawsuit Filed Against Bluefield

{Bluefield, West Virginia}...On November 18, 2010, Bluefield police officers found Stephen Yokosuk, 21, passed out in his car in a McDonald's parking lot and arrested him, charging him with public intoxication. Friday, a lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Charleston against the city of Bluefield on behalf of Wanda Yokosuk. The suit states that officers placed Yokosuk in a cell with other inmates and did not seek to provide him with any medical attention. It alleges Yokosuk was still unresponsive the next morning, and inmates told the officers that he had not moved the entire night, but the officers on duty said Yokosuk was a "drunk just sleeping it off." Two hours after breakfast, officers found Yokosuk dead in his cell. According to the lawsuit, an autopsy revealed that Yokosuk died of blood clots in his lungs, which traveled up from his legs, and Yokosuk did not have any alcohol in his system.
