One Found Dead...One Convicted

  • {Charleston, West Virginia}...Eighty-four year old George Jacobs was found dead in his Kanawha City home Tuesday afternoon, just one day after giving emotional testimony in the trial of Gary Wayne Mullins, the man accused of kidnapping and bullying him into giving him $2,000 in January 2011. Kanawha County Prosecutor Erica Lord says the death does not appear suspicious. Tuesday afternoon, a Kanawha County jury convicted Gary Mullins on one count of kidnapping. The jury was not told of Jacobs' death as it began deliberations. It found Mullins guilty of kidnapping but found him not guilty of robbery and obtaining money under false pretenses. The defense maintained Jacobs willingly loaned Mullins the money. Mullins faces 20 to 50 years in prison on the kidnapping conviction.
